Cumberland County board members Tuesday awarded bids for reconstruction of the Hazel Dell Road. The roadway runs from Illinois Route 130 to Illinois Route 49 between Greenup and Casey. The project was awarded for $1,962,061.57 and involves grant funding for a large part of the work.
Several people were present to ask about a veterans mall, but work is already underway on a Veterans Memorial, so that is receiving most of the Board’s attention.
Greenup Mayor Tom Bauguss was on hand to discuss maintenance and repairs on the covered bridge over the Embarras River, and the board approved a resolution opposing Illinois House Bill 2827 concerning homeschooling.
The Board reappointed Natalie Hall to the Montrose Fire Protection District Board and Jon Easton to the Toledo Fire Protection District Board. It was agreed to increase hours the maintenance assistant, agreed to have the Courthouse inspected, and it was agreed to take bids for mowing, snow removal and landscape maintenance. It was also agreed to approve the purchase of a new server for the voter system, and to approve engineering on an upcoming bridge project. The Board also reappointed Joe Mock and Robert Donsbach to the Board of Review for two more years, and to approve the resignation of Robert Sponsel from the Special Service Area Board.
