Stephen “Steve” Zerrusen, 73, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Teutopolis American Legion Post #924. Steve was born on October 19, 1951, in Effingham, IL, the son of Norbert and Vera (Starkey) Zerrusen. He married Laura Kathleen Hewkin on January 5, 1979 in Effingham. Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Teutopolis American Legion Post #924. He enjoyed fishing, doing jigsaw puzzles, and gardening. He loved going to his grandkids’ ballgames.
Steve is survived by his wife, Laura “Kate” Zerrusen of Effingham; daughter, Jackie Williams of Neoga; grandchildren, Jared (Randi) Yager and Shelbi Yager; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Lane, and Reed Yager, and Ivy Sparling; and siblings, Tim (Carolyn) Zerrusen of Toledo, Lynne Lidster of Effingham, Jeanine Miller of Effingham, Tammy (Jeff) Douthit of Effingham, Jeff Zerrusen of Peoria, Patrick Zerrusen of Effingham; and Becky (Dave) Tedrick of Greenup.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mary Jane Zerrusen, Penny Zerrusen, and Michael Zerrusen.
