 St. Anthony Blanks Neoga, BSE, North Clay Win, Cumberland Falls In H.S. Baseball

Effingham St. Anthony struck in the early innings and went on to hand Neoga an 8-0 high school baseball loss as the two National Trail Conference teams clashed in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3 Wednesday.

Neoga rumbled in the first inning, loading the bases after recording two outs. Colin Blazich singled and Matt Propst followed by drawing a walk. An error put Malik Coy on base. But the Bulldogs got out out of the frame unscathed with a fly ball to the shortstop.

St. Anthony then tallied two runs in the bottom of the inning. Will Fearday singled and Brady Hatton followed with a home run. Neoga held the Bulldogs down in the rest of the frame.

The Bulldogs then tallied two more in the second. With one out, Tim Seiler singled and an error on a sacrifice put Vincent Vogel on base. Fearday followed with a sacrifice fly that scored a run and an error on a ball hit ty Brady Helton scored another run and the Bulldogs led 4-0.

Neoga went up and down in the second and third.

St. Anthony scored four more in the third. Aiden Lauritzen drew a walk to start the frame and came home on a double by Henry Propst. Sam Link drew a walk as did Seiler. Vincent Vogel was hit by a pitch. W. Fearday singled home two runs and the Bulldogs had pushed their lead to 8-0.

Cayden Hakman singled in the fourth for Neoga. Singles came off the bats of Blazich and Coy in the sixth but both runners were left on base.

Dakota Flaig had a double in the fifth but was left stranded and Link singled in the sixth.

Tegeler went 4 1/3 innings for the win on the mound. He gave up two hits, one walk and struck out four.

At Effingham

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City as two National Trail Conference teams met Wednesday.

The Bombers tallied single runs in the third, fourth and fifth.

BSE finished with five hits led by Dodge Willms with a single, double and an RBI. Jayce Gillespie added a double and Nolan Wilhour had a single and three RBI.

Calin Chandler went six plus innings, allowing two runs on three hits, two walks and striking out eight.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Clive Schlanser with a double and Isaac Wells with an RBI.

At Brownstown

At Louisville

North Clay/Clay City broke a 1-1 second inning tie with two runs in the third and went on to beat Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 4-1 Wednesday.

The Cardinals had four hits led by Cayden Craig with a single and two RBI and Evan Clifton with a single and an RBI. Ian Jones and Gavin Hosselton added a single each.

Jack Compton went the distance on the mound. He gave up one run on two hits. He did not give up a walk and struck out eight.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Derk Friese with a single and an RBI and Seth Rincker with a single.

At Louisville

Argenta-Oreana broke a 1-1 opening inning tie with a five-run second and went on for a 12-3 victory over Cumberland Wednesday.

The winners had 10 hits while holding the Pirates to two.

Cumberland was led by Kade McMechan with a single and an RBI and Bryson Weber with a single.
