Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, Altamont, South Central and Effingham St. Anthony were opening round winners in the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament Tuesday.
In the first game, Windsor/Stew-Stras blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown, 16-0 in three innings.
Kendra Hayes tossed a no-hitter for Windsor/Stew-Stras. She went the three innings not allowing a run, hit or walk while striking out five.
The top-seeded Hatchets moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead then broke the game wide open with a 13-run second.
Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with 10 hits and was aided by four errors. Alaira Friese had a single, triple and two RBI while K. Hayes aided her own cause with a single, double and three RBI. Samantha Hayes finished with two singles and three RBI. Clarissa Johnson, Claire Holland and Cameron Carey added a single and two RBI each. Mya Friese finished with a single and an RBI.
In the second game, South Central tallied an 11-1 victory over North Clay. The Cougars stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead and never looked back, ending this contest 11-1 in five innings.
South Central had 13 hits. Lauren Johnson finished with three singles and an RBI while Perci Reid had three singles. Kaitlyn Swift added two singles and an RBI and Amelia Montes a single and two RBI. Bri Buchanan and Zoey Feldhake finished with a single and an RBI each and Maddie Peddicord added an RBI.
Peddicord went three innings for the mound victory. She did not give up a run, hit or walk and struck out eight.
North Clay had two hits, singles by Avery Romack and Mallory Boose.
The third contest went to Altamont over Dieterich by a 4-1 count.
Altamont scored all of its runs in the fifth inning.
Grace Lemke picked up the win on the mound. She went all seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, walking three and striking out 11.
Cecilia Pearcy had two singles and an RBI and Avery Fleeharty a single and an RBI.
Dieterich was led by Brittney Niemerg with a single, double and an RBI. Lucie Jansen added a double.
Effingham St. Anthony blanked Neoga by a 10-0 count in five innings.
Nancy Ruholl went four innings for the pitching win. She tossed a one-hitter with two walks and struck out seven. Camille Wines came on in the final inning to keep the Indians off the base paths.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were banging out 14 hits. Lilly Gannaway had three singles and two RBI while Ava Walton, Ava Faber and Jackie Vonderheide added two singles and two RBI each. Julia Schultz and C. Wines added a single and an RBI each. Ruholl finished with two singles.
Getting the lone hit for Neoga was Hannah Probst with a single.
The tourney continues today as Windsor/Stew-Stras and Altamont meet and St. Elmo/Brownstown takes on Dieterich, both games at 4:15 p.m. South Central and St. Anthony square off and North Clay and Neoga meet, both at 6 p.m.

Newton scored two runs in the second inning and went on to blank Cumberland, 6-0 Tuesday.
The Eagles finished with seven hits. Sally Mahaffey had a triple and two RBI while Bailee Frichtl and Avery Mulvey had two singles and an RBI each. Camryn Martin added a single and two RBI.
Lexie Ghast went 3.2 innings to claim the pitching win. She gave up two hits and struck out one. Amelia Collins came on to throw 3.1 innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.
Cumberland was led by Lauren Schnepper with two singles.

Teutopolis led 5-1 after two innings Tuesday but Mattoon came back with three-run innings in the third, fourth and fifth and finished with an 11-7 victory.
Both teams had 12 hits each. The Wooden Shoes were led by Malea Helmink and CJ Apke with a single, double and an RBI each. Kylie Borries had three singles and an RBI and Kayleigh Zerrusen added two singles. Olivia Wermert and Mallory Bloemer had a single and an RBI each and Jersey Gaddis added an RBI.
Gaddis went 3.1 innings to suffer the loss on the mound.
