Effingham Water Authority trustees approved amendments to the lake’s short-term rental ordinance.
Each of the amendments were approved. One concerned occupancy, clarifying the number of adults to minors; one concerned parking, clarifying the revocation of license and the revocation process; and one that adds an indemnification clause to the ordinance. The changes will become effective July 1, 2025. The Board also discussed the registration and license fee and agreed to increase the fee to $1,000, effective July 1, 2026.
The Board opened sealed bids on five lots in Town Hall. Christo Schultz submitted the following bids…Lot 27–$24,300; Lot 28–$24,300; Lot 29–$23,400; Lot 30–$27,900; and Lot 31–$21,600. The amounts were within 90% of the appraised value and the bids were approved.
Board members approved a re-plat by Charles Koester of Lots 22, 23 and 24 of Moccasin Inlet Subdivision; heard from Norma Fisher of Friends of Lake Sara who questioned the auditor’s remark at the February meeting regarding the dam insurance; and heard from Attorney Kyle Boose that they are reviewing the Sportsman’s Club lease regarding an option to renew the lease.
Tom Ryan of the Parks and Rec Committee reported that they will begin the remodel of the bath house at Lake Sara Beach to improve the air flow and will be receiving toilet partitions from the Gabby Goat later this year. Ryan reported that Lake Sara Forever is working with an engineer regarding making changes to the Beach. He said the Master Plan is in the update stages. Ryan also asked the Board to give feedback on changes they would like for the Pearson Building.
Fisher also updated the Board on their dates for Independence Day. The lake fireworks will be held on July 3 with a rain date of July 5. She said the fireworks have been paid for and the insurance is in place. They have 22 business partners this year.
