T-town Edges Windsor/Stew-Stras, South Central, Altamont, Newton Win In H.S. Softball

TEUTOPOLIS — Teutopolis tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for a 4-3 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in high school softball competition Thursday.

The Hatchets edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and tacked on another run in the second.

T-town came back to tie the score at 2-2 in the third. Windsor/Stew-Stras then edged ahead with a run in the top of the sixth.

But the Shoes scored two in the bottom of the frame for the victory.

Alyssa Tipton went the distance on the mound for the Shoes. She threw a seven-hitter with one walk while striking out 12.

The Shoes had five hits compared to seven for the Hatchets. Malea Helmink led T-town with a single, triple and an RBI while Kylie Borries and Olivia Wermert added a single and an RBI each.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Clarissa Johnson with a solo homer, Alaira Friese with a double, Mya Friese with two singles and Samantha Hayes with a single and an RBI.

At Kinmundy

Lauren Johnson went five innings, allowing two hits, two walks while striking out nine as South Central blanked Neoga, 10-0 in five innings Thursday.

While Johnson was keeping Neoga down in the hit category, the Cougars had their bats going with 10 hits. Kyra Swift had a single, home run and three RBI while Perci Reid added a single, triple and an RBI. Johnson aided her own cause with a double and two RBI and Abi Shuler added a double. Kinlee Thompson finished with two singles and an RBI.

Neoga had two hits and finished with three errors. Josalyn Brandenburg and Audrey Kepp had a single each.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and sent the Bobcats home with a 10-0 loss in six innings Thursday.

Grace Lemke threw a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts and two walks.

Altamont ran out to a 4-0 opening inning lead, then tallied three runs in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Lemke also was going strong offensively with two singles, a double and two RBI. Ella Nelson added three singles and an RBI while Laila Hankins had a double and three RBI while Sophia Pearcy and Madison Tonn finished with a single and an RBI each. Cecilia Pearcy added an RBI.

Altamont is now 3-1 in National Trail Conference action and 11-3 overall.

At Newton

Newton High School edged Mount Carmel, 1-0 as two tough pitchers went head-to-head Thursday.

Newton’s Amelia Collins came out the winner on the mound. She gave up three hits, three walks and struck out four.

Meanwhile, Keeps took the loss, giving up one run on three hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

The winning run came in the bottom of the seventh. Bailee Frichtl hit a single that scored the winning run. Allie Stanley and Allie Herrmann had a single each.

The Eagles remain unbeaten with a 13-0 record.
