WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) led 44 Members of Congress in a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, endorsing the Census Bureau’s proposed reforms and calling for additional measures to ensure the 2030 Census counts only U.S. citizens for congressional apportionment.
The letter urges the Bureau to exclude all noncitizens, including green card holders, temporary visa holders, and other foreign nationals, to prevent states with large noncitizen populations from distorting congressional representation.
Additionally, the letter suggests eliminating unnecessary demographic questions relating to race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation from the decennial Census and American Community Survey. These questions have advanced ideological bias rather than fulfilling the Census’s constitutional purpose.
“Congressional representation should be determined by American citizens, not millions of foreign nationals who have no allegiance to our country,” said Congresswoman Mary Miller. “The Biden Administration allowed millions of illegal aliens to flood our streets, and Americans should not have their political representation diluted as a result. I’m leading 44 of my colleagues in supporting President Trump’s efforts to restore integrity to the Census and ensure that American citizens determine the future of this country.”
