OLNEY — Teutopolis High School came out the champion of the Class 2A Olney Volleyball Regional Thursday evening.
The Wooden Shoes handed Effingham St. Anthony a 25-23, 25-18 loss for the title.
T-town was led by Willenborg and Swingler with10 digs each, Isley with seven kills, Pals with three blocks, Zumbahlen and Jordan with two aces each. Swingler led in sets with 38 and assists with 13.
“What an amazing group of girls,” said T-town Coach Tim Mills. “Our energy level was through the roof before we even got off the bus. They really came ready to play. Momentum is such a huge part of the game and we managed to keep it on our side almost all night. It helped that we never trailed in either set. We got out to a lead and managed to control the tempo of the match throughout with the exception of the very end of set one.
“We held a six-point lead late and let them get to within one before scoring the set winner. Emma Isley stepped up in a big way. She led with seven kills. I don’t think she was someone they prepared for.
“Our setters did such a great job of distributing the ball. We actually set our middles and right sides more than our outsides. And, I’m not sure they expected that. Our blocking and defense were solid all night. Emily Meyer got a stuff block early in the No. 2 set that seemed to frustrate the St. Anthony hitter. It was a great night of volleyball.”
