State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) is criticizing former House Republican Leader Jim Durkin for publicly endorsing JB Pritzker for Governor, saying the move exposes the divide between Durkin’s record and the values of Illinois Republicans.
Former House Republican Leader Jim Durkin made news by publicly endorsing JB Pritzker for Governor. His comments not only undermine Republican Darren Bailey’s campaign, but they also put competitive State Senate and State Representative at risk.
Representative Adam Niemerg is issuing the following statement.
“Jim Durkin led House Republicans for years, and I spent much of that time fighting against his policies because I believed they were wrong for our party and wrong for Illinois. Now, by endorsing JB Pritzker, he has made it clear where he stands. You can’t spend years leading Republicans and then turn around and endorse the very Democrat policies we’ve been fighting against. Jim Durkin has shown Illinois Republicans who he is, and it’s not a Republican fighting for our values. He is an opportunist who has abandoned all principles. This affects not only the governor’s race, but state rep races all throughout the suburbs. With his endorsement of the most radical Governor in the country he’s shown what he truly is, a Democrat.”
