Barbara Hampson, 90, of Altamont died at 11:07 a.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at her home.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2026 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. A graveside service will follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont with Pastor Tonna Percival officiating. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Care Center or the donor’s choice.
Barbara Jean Hampson was born on Monday, December 23, 1935 in Kinmundy to Donald and Lila (Remsburg) Marlow. She married Elmer Hampson on June 21, 1974 and he preceded her in death on September 24, 2003. Barbara was a member of Harvest United Methodist Church, Edgewood. She worked for Franklin Life in Springfield and she was a receptionist for Dr. Shah in St. Elmo and Effingham for many years.
She is survived by; her step son, James Elmer Hampson, Mendota, IL; sister, Betty Marlow, Kell, IL; 4 step grandsons and one step granddaughter; several great step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents; she was preceded in death by; her step son, Kenneth Joseph Hampson; brothers, Phillip Marlow, Harold Marlow and William Marlow; and sisters, Adelia Banning, Rosa Lee Seago, Janice Ernst and Launa Jackson.
