The Okaw Wetlands will be closed to waterfowl hunting for the 2026 to 2027 26-27 season due to habitat and water level conditions.
Corn planted in the spring was lost due to early summer flooding, and the addition of a new pump has affected the water levels and habitat conditions in the wetland. The new pump is expected to improve future water level management.
The Lake Shelbyville Environmental Stewardship team is seeking volunteers to assist with wetland habitat improvements and hunting blind maintenance.
For questions, concerns or information about volunteering, contact Park Ranger Cory Donnel at (217) 774-3951 Ext. 7001 or at Cory.L.Donnel@usace.army.mil.
