Traffic Director & Accounts Receivable
Hello! I’m Michelle Carman and if you’re wondering what Traffic Director entails, no it’s not directing actual traffic, “Traffic” is radio lingo for Commercial Logs…meaning I schedule, sort and finalize the daily commercials sold by our sales team. As a puzzle enthusiast, it’s putting together the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle daily, and I love it!
From an early age, I’ve always had an ear for all things music. I listen to a variety of music, County Music being my favorite, played piano throughout grade school, and was a member of the marching and concert band from 6th to 12th grade; so, entering the world of Radio-TV Broadcasting seemed like an easy choice after graduating Sullivan High School in 2010. In 2012 I graduated from Lake Land with an Associate’s Degree and received my Bachelor’s Degree from EIU in 2015.
My career in radio began in the fall of 2010, when I was extremely fortunate to get hired on part-time as a weekend DJ for The Cromwell Group of Mattoon. I admit, starting out, I was rough. I was always the shy kid in school and radio forced me to come out of my shell. The confidence didn’t occur overnight, but came naturally and stronger with time and experience. In 2015 I would be promoted to full-time, working the 7 p.m. to midnight shift, to eventually landing the Program Director Position for 104.3 the Party, a position I held from 2018-2021.
While I gained tons of knowledge as a PD, I found the elements of the position I enjoyed most was behind the scenes work. When the job position of Traffic Director opened up at Premier Broadcasting, I took a chance and have been building the daily commercials since January of 2022. You may even hear my voice on commercials from time-to-time.
When I’m not working, you can often find me at the movies; I attend the theater quite often and even held a job at Family Video for 5 years, until its tragic closing in 2020. I also attend quite a few trivia nights throughout the area. I have made an incredible friend group here in Effingham and Trivia is one of our favorite activities. Other hobbies include: attending concerts, Broadway shows in St. Louis, Amusement Parks in the summer and shopping. I still prefer shopping in-person over online.
I have one fur-baby, a cat named Chloe; two loving parents, 1 younger-brother Cody (and yes it’s Mr. Carman the Agriculture Teacher/FFA Advisor for Neoga High School), and a wonderful nephew and niece.
