The Trinity volleyball team traveled to Collinsville for a 12 team Lutheran Tournament during the weekend.
Friday began pool play with three pools of four. Most teams were from the metro-east area and few Missouri teams.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect from my team this year with only one player returning from last year’s team,” said Coach Tammy Meinhart. “These girls got better with each match they played. It was such a fun weekend of volleyball.
“We won our pool on Friday and then both matches on Saturday putting us in the championship match on Sunday. We faced a team from Green Park, Mo. with several talented players. We jumped out to a good lead in the first set but Green Park wasn’t going to give up. They battled back and made it a dog fight. We pulled it out in the first set 26-24. The second set started out as a back and forth battle until we pulled ahead in the middle of the set and were able to keep the pressure on them forcing lots of errors on their part, winning the championship in two sets.
“I am so proud of the girls. They were put in a tough spot several times throughout the weekend and they kept their composure continuing to play our game. It was a total team effort all weekend.”
