Windsor/Stew-Stras scored four times in both the second and fourth innings Wednesday at Stewardson-Strasburg High School as the third-seeded Hatchets cemented their spot in the title game of the National Trail Conference baseball tournament with a 10-1 rout of seventh-seeded Dieterich.
Grayson McCray went six strong innings on the hill for the Hatchets (13-6), striking out eight and walking nobody. He surrendered five hits and Dieterich’s only score on Gavin Meinhart’s RBI double in the top of the fourth after setting the Movin’ Maroons down in order through the first three innings.
WSS was already ahead 5-0 by the time that run crossed the plate, though. The Hatchets tallied one in the bottom of the first when McCray bounced a two-out RBI single through the left side of the infield and four more in the second thanks to a couple Dieterich miscues and RBIs from Jakob Gurgel, Parker Duncan and another one for McCray.
Koy Morris blew the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out, three-run double. Brody Barnard also drove one in that inning and it was 9-1 by the time the smoke cleared. Eli Jones’ sacrifice fly in the sixth capped the WSS scoring.
Barnard was 3-for-4 at the plate while McCray, Gurgel and Noah Pruemer had two hits each. Mason Manhart scored three times for the Hatchets.
Dieterich (10-10) got a 2-for-3 day out of Meinhart. Cooper Stortzum had the Movin’ Maroons’ only other extra base hit, a double to lead off the fifth.
