STRASBURG — Effingham St. Anthony handed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg a 25-16, 25-23 loss in high school volleyball action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs improved to 8-0 in the National Trail Conference and 24-3 overall.

Cara Hatton led in kills for St. Anthony with 13 and digs with 13. Madelyn Gilmore led in assists with 17 and blocks with three. Sophia Emmerich also had three blocks.

The Bulldogs are now 24-3 overall and return to action Thursday hosting North Clay.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Kendra Hayes had 18 assists, 18 digs and three block assists. Mya Friese and Gia Bostedo hda one ace each. M. Friese led in kills with 11.

“We certainly didn’t play up to par tonight which is disappointing,” said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. “We came together in set two and we were able to get the ball to Mya. It was a battle from 18 on. We fell just short of going three but it was a much better game.”

In the junior varsity contest, Windsor/Stew-Stras won 25-19, 25-16 to improve to 16-1. St. Anthony won the freshman/sophomore contest 25-18, 25-20. Windsor/Stew-Stras dropped to 5-7-5 on the season.

At Altamont

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up its eighth straight win by downing Altamont 25-23, 25-29 Tuesday.

The Eagles were led by Peyton Barker with seven kills, Mya Barker with eight digs and Addison Koonce with 17 assists. Ariana Kistler had two blocks.

St. Elmo/Brownstown improved to 6-2 in the National Trail Conference and 19-3 overall.

Altamont was led by Abigail Wills with four kills and four digs, Adilyn Schnarre with nine assists and Lydia Aldrich with four kills and two blocks.

The Indians ended the conference season at 0-9 and stand at 3-18-1 overall.

Newton handed Mount Carmel a loss in varsity competition Tuesday evening.

The Eagles won 25-16, 25-18. Probst led in aces with two. Thomann had 10 kills and five digs. Stanley led in assists with 28. Schackmann had five blocks.

Newton improved to 22-2 on the season.

In junior varsity action, Mount Carmel won 25-16, 25-22. Newton won the freshman/sophomore contest 25-8, 25-23.

The Eagles are back in action Thursday against Marshall.

Teutopolis traveled to Vandalia Tuesday evening and swept through freshman/sophomore, junior varsity and varsity with victories.

The Wooden Shoes won the varsity match, 25-18, 25-20 to improve to 18-7 on the season.

E. Meyer, Pals and Swingler had one block each. Zumbahlen led in digs with 10. Pals had six kills. Jordan had 29 sets and 13 assists.

The Wooden Shoes also won the junior varsity contest, 25-13, 25-22 and is 12-7. In freshman/sophomore play, Vandalia was the winner, 21-16, 17-21, 15-10.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City traveled to Cumberland and fell to the homestanding Pirates, 25-19, 25-13.

Leading Cumberland were Alysa Dittamore with 16 assists and three blocks, Mackenzie Claybaugh with eight kills and six digs, Ava Long with three blocks and Katie McElravy with three aces.

Zoe Sarver led CHBC with four kills. Ethel Stuckemeyer led in digs with eight. Natalie Tucker had eight assists while Allison Shields had two aces.

The Bobcats fell to 6-18 on the season and ends at 2-7 in the National Trail Conference.

At Toledo

South Central defeated Sandoval Tuesday.

The Cougars won 25-4, 25-7 to improve to 17-6.

Bailey Wodkta led in kills with nine. Sohie Wodtka had 16 assists. Bella Noschese led in aces with three. Maddie Peddicord had three digs.

The junior varsity also claimed a win in two sets, 25-8, 25-8 and is 8-5.

South Central is back in action Thursday hosting Neoga.

North Clay fell to Wayne City Tuesday.

The Cardinals lost 25-17, 21-25, 25-20 to drop to 8-18 on the season.

In junior varsity play, North Clay won 26-24, 25-15. The two teams split in freshman/sophomore play. Wayne City won 25-12 and North Clay won 17-14.

The Cardinals return to action Thursday at St. Anthony.
