Effingham St. Anthony is headed to State. The Bulldogs won their own Class 2A Golf Sectional Monday at the Effingham Country Club.
St. Anthony tallied 294 followed by Normal University 306, Mahomet-Seymour 314, Washington 316, Metamora 322, Mount Vernon 324, Morton 330, Benton 330, Kankakee McNamara 339, Centralia 346, Red Hill/Lawrenceville 347 and Charleston 360.
Normal University’s Jack Quinn was medalist with a 71 while teammate Dawson Freeman took second with a 72.
St. Anthony then claimed the next four spots as James Trupiano shot a 39-34 — 73, Logan Gowin a 37-36 — 73, Trenton Sandschafer a 36-37 — 73 and Liam McAllaster a 37-38 — 75.
Also competing were Liam Traub with an 80 to finish 23rd, Briggs Whitley 41-38 — 79 and Liam McAllaster 37-38 — 75.
Effingham competed but did not advance a golfer. Jude Traub shot an 80 to finish 23rd, Leo Wyckoff shot an 84 to finish 46th and Carter Braddy shot a 101 to finish 109th.
Altamont’s Mason Schaub, a sophomore, finished with a 90 and did not advance.
St. Anthony, Normal University and Mahomet-Seymour advanced as teams to State at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in Normal Friday and Saturday.
At Monticello
Teutopolis competed at the Class 1A Monticello Sectional along with Altamont, Dieterich, Newton and Windsor golfers.
The Wooden Shoes won the sectional championship with a 299 followed by Williamsville 309, Casey-Westfield 321, Pana 322, Mount Carmel 323, Monticello 326, Champaign St. Thomas More 328, Hoopeston Area 331, LeRoy 335, Raymond Lincolnwood 339, Decatur St. Teresa 339 and Catlin Salt Fork 357.
T-town was led by Kade Pennington with a 72, Isaac Weber and Jack Weber with a 75 each, Mathew Habing with a 77, Owen Kremer with a 79 and Eli Weber with an 81.
Newton’s Jack James finished with a 77 and will advance as an individual.
Others from the area competing but not advancing were Jacob Oldham (Newton) 81, Jacob Vonderheide (Windsor/Stew-Stras) 81, Nolan Cleaver (Newton) 84, Mason Schaub (Altamont) 90 and Alex Schottman (Dieterich) 96.
Teutopolis and Newton’s James will advance to the Class 2A State Meet at Weibring Golf Club in Normal Friday and Saturday.
