Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City handed Brownstown/St. Elmo a 5-3 loss in the opening game of the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Friday.
The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the first inning before BSE moved ahead 3-1 in the second. The Bobcats then tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the top of the fourth. They finished out with single runs in the sixth and seventh for the win.
Wells picked up the pitching victory.
Kircher, Ondes and McConkey finished with two singles each for the winners. Roadarmel added a single and an RBI. CHBC is now 7-9 on the season.
BSE had five hits led by Sullivan Smith with a single and two RBI. BSE dropped to 9-11 on the season.
CHBC advances to face top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony today at 4 p.m. at St. Anthony.
In other games today, South Central is at Neoga, Dieterich at North Clay and Altamont at Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, all 4 p.m. contests.
The winners will advance to 4 p.m. games Wednesday and the finals are scheduled for Saturday.
