 St. Anthony, Teutopolis Win Boys Golf Regionals, Area Players Qualify For Sectionals

PARIS — Effingham St. Anthony won the Class 2A Boys Golf Regional Wednesday at Eagle Ridge Golf Course.

The Bulldogs tallied 297 strokes followed by Red Hill/Lawrenceville 321, Charleston 324, Effingham 326, Danville 332, Olney/Richland County 350, Mattoon 352 and Paris 374.

St. Anthony swept the top four spots as Logan Gowin was medalist with a 73 followed by teammates Liam McAllaster 74, Trenton Sandschafer 75 and James Trupiano 75.

The Bulldogs will head to the their own Sectional Monday, October 5 along with Effingham’s Jude Traub who finished with a 79 and Carter Braddy who ended with an 83.

Other individual sectional qualifiers were Dierks Mitchell (Olney) 78, Ryan Hartshorn (Danville) 81, Brody Boyd (Danville) 82, Tate McLaughlin (Danville) 84, Joshua Long (Danville) 85, Kyle Smith (Mattoon) 86 and Lyric Dundee (Mattoon).

 

At Robinson

Teutopolis Newton, Altamont and Dieterich competed at the Class 1A Robinson Regional at Quail Creek Country Club Wednesday.

Teutopolis won the team title with a 308 followed by Mount Carmel 316, Casey-Westfield 330, Fairfield 339, Newton 340, Edwards County (Albion) 342, Altamont 345, Dieterich 356, Robinson 357, Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville 360, Wayne City 379, Flora 385 and Marshall 392. Webber Township (Bluford) had three players.

Mount Carmel’s Zane Wilcox was medalist with a 71.

T-town placed five of their players in the top 10. The Wooden Shoes’ scores included Isaac Weber 75, Owen Kremer 77, Mathew Habing 77, Eli Weber 79, Jack Weber 79 and Kade Pennington 84.

Included in the advancing individuals from the area were Altamont’s Mason Schaub who finished with an 83, Dieterich’s Alex Schottman who had an 84 and Newton’s Nolen Cleaver 82, Jacob Oldham 83 and Jack James 84.

Other Altamont players competing were Cooper McManaway 85, Henry Niermann 87, Evan Elam 90, Hunter Grobengieser 105 and Carter Boehm 109.

The qualifiers will head to the Monticello Sectional Monday, October 5.

 

At Macon

Only one area player advanced from the Class 1A Macon Meridian Regional and that was Windsor’s Jacob Vonderheide.

Pana won the team championship with a 310 followed by Williamsville 314, Raymond Lincolnwood 319, Virden North Mac 325, Tuscola 332, Arcola 334, Sullivan 335, Windsor 337, Moweaqua Central A&M 340, Ramsey 343, Vandalia 346, Macon Meridian 356, Auburn 360, Beecher City 386 and Shelbyville 414.

Windsor finished eighth. Vonderheide finished with an 80. Also competing were Blake Owens with an 83, Briar Rincker with an 85, Brady Wallin with an 89, Joe Holland with a 105 and Logan Corrie with a 106.

Beecher City’s Charles Hardimon finished with an 82, Hunter Barnes with a 100, Kendrick Stoldt with a 100, Porter Lilly with a 104, Charles Witteborg with a 107 and Carter Dilly with a 110.

Vonderheide will held to sectional play at Monticello Monday, October 5.
