Fire damaged a carport at South Street and High Street in the central part of Effingham just before 7:00 Wednesday evening. No one was injured.
The structure is owned by Mark Schackmann. Firefighters did considerable searching of the structure, since no electricity is connected to it.
There is a single-story home immediately to the north of the carport, but it is not connected to the carport, and was not damaged by the fire.
Effingham firefighters and police handled the call, along with Rural Med EMS.
