A car and motorcycle collided on US Route 40 Sunday afternoon, sending one person to the hospital.

The crash happened just after 4:30pm at 775th Street. Effingham County Sheriff’s Office reports the cycle operated by 30-year-old Austin Robson of Vandalia and a car driven by 47-year-old Justin Niebrugge of Effingham were both traveling eastbound. Witnesses reported Robson began passing multiple vehicles via the westbound lane of traffic. At the intersection of Route 40 and 775th Street, Niebrugge turned north and, while Niebrugge was turning, Robson’s cycle collided with the Niebrugge vehicle. Robson was ejected from the cycle.

Robson was injured and was taken by Rural Med EMS to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. No one in the Niebrugge vehicle was taken for treatment.

Deputies cited Robson for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, improper passing, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
