The Effingham County 911 Board Tuesday continued a discussion of ability to sound tornado sirens.
The Board is hearing from different sources about how the city and county dispatch centers can trigger the sirens. Since 911 doesn’t own any of the sirens, there was discussion of requiring that the sirens being used in the county be of a certain standard to guarantee that they can be dispatched.
The Shumway Fire Protection District is looking at new sirens, but so are other districts in the county.
The 911 Board also heard from Pat Voigt, who was invited to discuss a mobile PSAP system.
Effingham Fire Chief Brant Yochum said an event that could compromise the stationary PSAPs would magnify the benefit of a portable system. A separate meeting with Voigt and a mobile PSAP committee took place following the 911 Board meeting.
