Dieterich school board members Monday discussed what were termed “much needed upgrades” to the 1930’s gym.
Dieterich Superintendent Cary Jackson said some upgrades discussed were a new gym floor, stage curtains, additional safety padding, and locker room renovations.
Jackson also reported that the roof/solar/tuckpointing project at the district is complete.
The Board adopted the district budget. Both anticipated revenues and expenditures total just more than $9 million, resulting in a deficit of just under $51,000. Jackson said the deficit is due directly to paying off the remaining balance of the roof/solar/tuckpointing project and the purchase of two off lease buses.
Board members heard from Darin and Tara Probst on the need for new playground equipment that will meet the needs of all students. They also heard that current PreK-12 enrollment is 642, up 12 students from this time last year.
There was also discussion led by Junior/Senior High Dean of Students Ryan Wohltman on Hudl, a sports broadcasting program that airs Dieterich basketball and volleyball games on the internet and helps track statistics for each team. Costs have increased to deliver this option to Dieterich fans. The Board discussed possible options, including sponsorships and advertising as ways to offset some of the costs.
Wohltman and Elementary Principal Josh Benefiel presented a recap of Grandparents Day, where over 450 grandparents attended. The high school Student Council and the Dieterich FFA were recognized for their assistance with the event.
The Dieterich board hired Emery Langford, Trevor Egan, Riley Koester and Brody Gerth as student workers; approved Devin McManaway as Eco Team sponsor; and accepted the resignation of Landon Keck as volunteer high school basketball coach. The Board also approved early graduation requests for two Dieterich High School students.
Also Monday, Superintendent Jackson reported the district’s tax rate decreased this past year from $3.91 to $3.81, while the Equalized Assessed Valuation increased by 12%.
