Illinois Route 32 in Stewardson was closed Monday afternoon due to a fatal crash.

The crash occurred at 2:45pm. Two vehicles were involved. One person was killed in the crash.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the person killed was 75-year-old Keith Rentfro of Stewardson. Authorities say Rentfro was riding  his motorcycle southbound on Route 32 when a vehicle driven by Petty Renner of Stewardson pulled out of the gas station at Stewardson to go north on Route 32. The vehicles collided and Rentfro was thrown from the motorcycle. Rentfro was taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham where he was pronounced dead at 3:47pm.

Renner was not injured in the crash.

Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes and Deputy Coroner Lauren Heuerman were called to the Emergency Room at St. Anthony’s and identified Rentfro as the person killed.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the McLean County Coroner’s Office in Bloomington to determine the official cause of death.

The Illinois State Police, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Stewardson Police Department, and the State Police Reconstruction Team were at the crash scene, and are assisting the Coroner’s Office in the investigation.
