Effingham City Police Chief Kurt Davis said the case of a Rockford area truck driver who was battered outside a local truck stop one month ago is “one of our priority cases”.
Corey Clayton is still hospitalized after being beaten and kicked early in the morning of August 8.
The Chief said he has two detectives actively working the case, and that they continue to follow up leads. He said they want to insure that they have the best case they can before filing charges.
Corey Clayton’s mother, Kelly, said by phone Monday that they are concerned for their son and would appreciate updates from authorities as to the status of the investigation. She said her son has suffered a brain bleed, is intubated, and has been unconscious. Corey Clayton has undergone plastic surgery to address the facial injuries he has suffered.
