MATTOON — St. Anthony and Teutopolis finished third and fourth respectively at the Craig Dixon Boys Golf Invitational at Meadowview and Mattoon golf courses Friday and Saturday.
Edwardsville won the meet with 579 strokes followed by Quincy Notre Dame 588, St. Anthony 593, Teutopolis 603, Champaign Central 607, Sacred Heart Griffin 620, Mahomet-Seymour 626, Chatham Glenwood 629, Williamsville 630, Red Bud 633, Champaign St. Thomas 635, Carterville 639, Alton 640, Monticello 642, Lincoln 644, Casey-Westfield 650, Alton Marquette 653, Mount Zion 655, Maroa-Forsyth 667, Springfield 661, Decatur St. Teresa 669, Effingham 669, Clinton 678, Quincy 679, Olney 690, Hillsboro 702, Windsor 717, Massac County 724, Litchfield 723, Vandalia 731, Mattoon 734 and Charleston 743.
St. Anthony’s Logan Gowin and Quincy Notre Dame’s Oliver Hendrian tied with a 138 on top of the leaderboard. Gowin finished with the victory by winning the playoff.
Gowin had a first day score of 35-34 — 69 and finished the second day at 34-35 — 69.
Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Briggs Whitley 39-37 — 76 and 34-40 — 74 for 150, Liam McAllaster 76-75 — 151, Jameson McAllaster 75-80 — 155, Trenton Sandschafer 72-80 — 157 and James Trupiano 75-84 — 159 as the team finished third.
Teutopolis’ finished in fourth place. The Shoes shot 303 and a two-day total of 603.
Kade Pennington led the Shoes with a 71 for a 149 total, Mathew Habing a 76 for a 150 total, Owen Kremer a 78 for a 163 total, Eli Weber a 78 for a 158 total, Isaac Weber an 82 for 153 total, Jack Weber an 85 for 162 total and Lane Ohnesorge an 80 at Meadowview.
The Shoes will be back in action Tuesday against Olney and celebrating Senior Night at ECC.
Effingham finished 21st out of 32 teams with a 669. Jude Traub led the Hearts with 76-79 — 155 followed by Leo Wyckoff 77-80 — 157, Owen Nuxoll 94-95 — 189 and Carter Braddy 101-91 — 192.
During the first day, Effingham’s Gage Kinder had a 90 and Jake Niebrugge an 81. The second day, Roman Martin had a 109 and Eli Wendling a 136.
At Carlyle
St. Anthony played in the 18 hole Indian Invitational at Govenors Run Golf Course Friday.
Salem won the girls meet with a 322 followed by St. Anthony 325, Breese Central 339, Highland 339, Centralia 377 and Teutopolis 389.
Brooklyn Phillips finished third for the Bulldogs with a 72. Gianna Frisbie finished in eighth place with an 81. Adria Moberly had an 82, Tenley Sams a 90, Lucy Bierman a 93 and Liza Kuhns a 108.
At Altamont
Altamont won a boys meet while placing second in a girls meet Friday.
In the boys meet, Altamont won with a 165 followed by Dieterich 195, Altamont junior varsity 199 and Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 304. Windsor had three players.
Altamont’s Mason Schaub was medalist with a 40 that was decided by a scorecard tiebreaker. Runner up was Evan Elam with a 40. Others competing for Altamont were Chase Pals 42, Henry Niermann 43, Hunter Grobengieser 44 and Harrison Lash 45.
Competing for the junior varsity were Nolan Winter 48, Jackson Pagone 49, Cooper McManaway 49, Riley Scholes 50, Henry Grasher 60 and Eli Bowman 61.
Competing for the girls varsity were Kenzie Zumbahlen 54, Cecilia Pearcy 57, Jocelyn Pearcy 63, Meghan Goeckner 66 and Luella Hartleroad 68.
Match Medalist was Dieterich’s Nora Wente with a 51. Match medalist runner-up was Windsor’s Kinsley Dunaway with a 52.
