 Effingham Wins Junior High Softball Regional, T-town Advances

Effingham Junior High School handed Mattoon a 7-3 loss Thursday to win the championship of its own Class 3A Softball Regional.

The Mustangs had a four-run second. Mattoon pulled within 4-3 in the top of the fifth but Effingham answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame and tacked on a final run in the sixth.

Effingham finished with seven hits led by M. Hartke with a single and triple, T. Patton with a double and an RBI, L. Lauritzen with a single and two RBI, A. Gouchenouer and K. Robertson with single and an RBI each and H. Westjohn with an RBI.

S. Wiedman went five innings for the pitching win. She gave up three runs on seven hits, no walks and struck out two. L. Lauritzen went the final two innibgs, giving up three hits, no walks and striking out three.

The Mustangs will be competing in their own sectional but have to wait until Saturday to find out who they will be playing.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis was a winner over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in its own Class 2A Regional Thursday, 6-2.

T-town moved ahead 1-0 in the second and held that lead until scoring two more in the sixth and three in the seventh.

The Shoes had five hits led by S. Grunloh with a single and triple and O. Will with a single and two RBI. P. Ruholl added two RBI.

T-town now advances to face Cumberland Saturday for the regional championship.
