The Effingham Junior High School cross country teams recently traveled to Taylorville and Centralia for meets.
Taylorville’s meet was for seventh-eighth graders and a few sixth graders
It was a hot race day, but that didn’t stop our runners from putting together some awesome performances,” said EJHS Coach Nancy Ervin.
“C. Jolly, M. Ingram, and K. Percival all ran PRs! Not bad at all for an extremely hot day!
“Runner of the Meet was K. Percival. She had a big PR, and considering the heat and the number of runners in the race, that’s a huge accomplishment! ”
Centralia’s meet was for fifth-sixth graders only.
“Another hot day, but I think the kids had a great time at the meet. It was also nice for them to finally compete against kids their own age.
“Big congratulations to sixth-grader M. Ingram for winning the girls race! She took the lead from the very beginning and continued to build on it throughout the race, finishing with a pretty impressive margin of victory!
“Congratulations to everyone who finished in the Top 25 and that included:
Girls: M. Ingram, K. Kellams, S. Johnson & O. Wiedman and Boys: E. Mette & C. Althoff
“The “Goats” of the Meet were: Girls: sixth-grader O. Wiedman. She has worked her butt off all summer and throughout the season, and it is definitely showing! She has improved so much, and it’s been awesome to watch her progress. Keep fighting.
“And Boys: sixth-grader C. Althoff. He has also improved so much! He works incredibly hard, and it shows in every race. I’m excited to see what he can accomplish as the rest of the season unfolds!
“Keep working, keep pushing, and keep believing! We’re getting closer and closer to the big meets.”
