FORSYTH, Ill. — The St. Anthony Junior High boys golf team is officially state bound after putting together a dominant performance Wednesday at Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth, capturing the IESA Sectional championship with a team score of 297.

The Bullpups showcased remarkable depth throughout the field, placing six golfers among the top nine individual finishers and securing their place in the IESA State Tournament.

Leading the charge was Brooks Niebrugge, who fired an impressive 71 to claim medalist honors and finish first individually.

St. Anthony continued to stack the leaderboard. Cameron McAllaster carded a 73 to finish second, followed by Nash Hoene, who shot a 74 to earn third place.

The Bullpups also received strong performances from James Gilmore, who finished fifth with a 79, Hayes Hinton, who placed seventh with an 80, and Parker Meinhart, who finished ninth with an 84.

The combination of Niebrugge’s 71, McAllaster’s 73, Hoene’s 74 and Gilmore’s 79 produced the Bullpups’ championship score of 297.

The sectional victory caps an outstanding day for St. Anthony and sends the Bullpups to the IESA State Golf Tournament, where they will compete against the top junior high teams in Illinois.

The Bullpups will tee it up at Metamora Fields Golf Course on Friday, September 18, with the opportunity to finish their season on the state’s biggest stage.
