CHARLESTON — Cumberland High School was the highest finishing local team at the Big Trojan Cross Country Boys Invitational Saturday.
Mahomet-Seymour won with 20 points followed by Urbana 82, Cumberland 95, Champaign Central 124, Mount Zion 133, Shelbyville 150, Tuscola 183, Charleston 207, Effingham 280, Fairfield 284, Mattoon 327, Sullivan 333, Champaign Centennial 376, Teutopolis 415, Champaign St. Thomas More 426, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 445 and Oblong 463. Also competing but not having a team score were Dieterich, Newton, Oblong, Cerro Gordo-Bement, Danville, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, Casey-Westfield and St. John’s Lutheran.
Cumberland’s Cameron Roedl won the meet with a time of 15:36.89. Also competing for the Pirates were Colby Roedl ninth in 16:53.65, Gavin Whitaker 11th in 16:55.02, Clayton Altgilbers 40th in 18:27.0, Maverick Duvall 49th in 18:43.35, Damien Chardon 68th in 19:18.70, Kyler Houchin 84th in 20:00.98, Adam Wolke 101st in 20:28.68, Brody Helm 103rd in 20:34.04, Henry Malone133rd in 21:21.72, Tate Christner 145th in 21:55.39 and Gage Christner 232rd in 35:21.84.
Jared Klingler was the top finisher for Effingham in 22nd place with a time of 17:27.66. Also competing for the Hearts were Trenton Partlow 53rd in 18:47.60, Alexander McFarland 56th in 18:56.02, Anthony Bohnhoff 129th in 21:11.08, Carson Mihlbachler 134th in 21:24.19. Mason Overbeck 143rd in 21:49.86, Khye Kellams 203rd in 26:17.05 and Landon Ranney-Brown 226th in 31:29.06.
Competing for Dieterich were Sylus Niland 41st in 18:27.05, Cody Landers 141st in 21:46.14, Rylan McQueen 157th in 22:41.56 and Gabe Crutcher 172nd in 23:18.09
Archer Kitten was the top runner for Teutopolis. He finished 92nd in 20:17.50. Also competing for the Shoes were Cole Dasenbrock 121st in 20:55.01, John Pruemer 122nd in 20:57.63, Kyle Bierman 144th in 21:54.04, Jackson Meyer 164th in 22:51.78, Jackson Krampe 170th in 23:12.70, Alexander Ghast 184th in 24:03.03, Leo Zerrusen 193rd in 24:57.48, Brayden Mette 194th in 25:04.29, Oliver Feldhake 204th in 26:28.81, Vincent McClellan 205th in 26:34.87 and Jay Kitterman 209th in 26:45.61.
Levi Salyers finished in 107th place in 20:39.82 for Newton. Kendall Probst was 147th in 22:00.24 and Jeremiah Hills 152nd in 22:20.31
In the girls meet, Newton finished fifth with 182 points. Winning was Shelbyville with 29 points followed by Mahomet-Seymour 40, Mount Zion 157, Champaign Centennial 175, Newton, Fairfield 211, Urbana 215, Neoga 220, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 233, Teutopolis 250, Champaign Central 266, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 280, Tuscola 310, Effingham 328, Dieterich 340 and Charleston 382. Not finishing with a team score were Charleston, Sullivan, Cerro Gordo-Bement, Champaign St. Thomas More, Mattoon, Oblong, Casey-Westfield and Danville.
Mahomet-Seymour’s Anniston Huff claimed first place with a time of 18:31.93.
Newton’s Heather Bergbower was 14th in 21:18.47, followed by teammates Avery Geier 21st in 22:03.38, Chloe Holsapple 32nd in 23:11.20, Kimberly Bierman 60th in 25:09.58 and Kate Bierman 100th in 27:53.56.
Competing for Neoga were Jemma Lawyer 30th in 22:49.73, Lily Browning 41st in 24:00.96, Jude Miller 43rd in 24:08.22, Paige Wolke 63rd in 25:22.22, Livi Shuemaker 103rd in 28:11.33, Lila Light 104th in 28:13.07, Molly Moran 107th in 28:19.24, Cece Chardon 118th in 29;13.86, Raegan Jones 138th in 32:21.44, Audrey Edwards 140th in 34:26.64 and Amelia Colner 147th in 40:07.44
Effingham was led by Camila Montero in 45th in 24:14.06, Alaina Miller 69th in 25:44.10, Aleece Lotz 82nd in 27:02.30, Jillian Hess 102nd in 28:08.94 and Lauren Etheridge 133rd in 31:05.17
Lena Goebel led Dieterich in 16th place in 21:18.98, Violet Iffert 90th in 27:37.48, Halo Homann 93rd in 27:41.20, Avery Bohnhoff 122nd in 29:24.98, Allie Wright 128th in 30:44.69, Bailey Hewkin 129th in 30:44.82, Ava Niemerg 131st in 30:57.72, Coraline Homann 137th in 32:06.85 and Faith Hewkin 142nd in 35:07.48.
T-town’s M. Peterson was 25th in 22:33.04 followed by Kenzi Dust 42nd in 24:04.97, Abigail Zane 59th in 25:07.66, Mary Jane Dennis 70th in 25:51.02, Elaina Gaffin 126th in 30;22.90 and Pearl Huber 134th in 31:39.48.
