Problems on Thursday afternoon on I-70 from Montrose to Greenup.
State Police received a report of a semi on fire at 1:46pm about four miles east of Greenup. Eastbound I-70 was temporarily shutdown shortly after 2pm so the fire could be put out.
Then, shortly after 3pm, a three-vehicle crash occurred four miles west of Greenup involving two semis and a passenger car. Lane blockage occurred and traffic was temporarily diverted. The shoulder of I-70 eastbound was opened up to allow traffic to flow through.
After 4pm, eastbound I-70 traffic was still being impacted. At Montrose, no eastbound travel was being allowed on either I-70 or on US Route 40. Traffic in the eastbound lanes on I-70 was either being routed north out of Montrose or being turned around on I-70 westbound back to Effingham. The maneuver allowed debris from the earlier crashes to be removed from the roadways. The diversion on Route 40 is due to bridge replacement work at Greenup.
Things are back to normal today on the interstate.
