Effingham city council members this week discussed two options for acquiring land from D and A Farms for road improvement projects.
One option is to acquire 23 acres of land on the northeast corner of Ford Avenue and Charlotte Street. Another option is to acquire land at Rickelman Avenue and North 4th Street.
That second proposed acquisition would allow the completion of Ford Avenue, with the street swinging north to Rickleman.
The Council also discussed the possible sale of 6.49 acres of land to Heartland/Effingham along the south side of Thies Avenue for $159,005.
Council members discussed approving the Effingham High School Homecoming Parade on Sunday, September 20 at 3pm. The parade would extend west from Effingham Public Library on Jefferson Avenue to Cherry Street, south on Cherry to Grove Avenue, and west on Grove to EHS.
The Council also discussed a business area redevelopment program agreement that would involve repainting the exterior of RMC Cinemas, discussed some watermain and sewer improvements, and approved a grant application for a Jaycee Avenue and Veterans Drive multi-use path.
