Effingham County Regional Airport Commission members Wednesday discussed the need for a final resolution to work on a new hangar building.
The Airport Commission voted last month to seek up to 58 days in liquidated damages for work still needing completed by the contractor. Precise, the contractor, disagreed with the county’s belief that damages for lack of completion of the project were due.
Airport Commission Chairman Ken Wohltman said the project “was about as simple as you could have.” The project was expected to be completed some time ago, and Airport Manager Jerry Tate said they are “trying to get the tenants into the building.”
Meanwhile, commissioners are working to come up with a plan to update the airport’s fuel system, which will be some combination of a replacement tank or a fuel truck.
There was also discussion of engineering work needed on Phase II of an apron expansion. The Commission also discussed an agreement with Rob Nelson of Flying Crew Chiefs, who will operate a repair shop in a hangar at the airport.
