Frederick Dean “Fred” Gammon, 80, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy, IL. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Frederick was born on July 30, 1946, in Decatur, IL, the son of Fredrick and Vivian Irene (Livesay) Gammon. He married Elizabeth Ann “Ann” Singleton on September 2, 1967, in LaGrange, IL.
Fred attended school in Kinmundy, IL and was a graduate of Kinmundy High School Class of 1964. He continued his education at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Design and Education in 1969. Also during this time he achieved an Airframe and Engineer Mechanics License and Commercial and Instrument Pilot License. Later in life he received his Master Degree in Business Administration. He began working with Pan Am Airlines and achieved the level of Executive Vice President working for the airlines from 1969-1991.
After the closure of Pan Am, Johnson Controls bought the part of Pan Am Company that Fred managed and he went to work for Johnson Controls as Vice President and later began working for Qualcomm Corporation in San Diego, CA, in their aviation division until he retired in 2012. He was a member of Kinmundy Christian Church, National Rifle Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and Lake of Egypt Country Club. Fred enjoyed golfing, reading, photography, and Civil War reenacting.
Fred is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann “Ann” Gammon of Effingham; sons, Michael Timothy Gammon and wife, Sonya of Effingham and Matthew Granville Gammon and wife, Shannon of Whitestown, IN; grandchildren, Sean Gammon and wife, Lisa of Dayton, OH, Ian Gammon and wife, Haley of Lebanon, IN, and Trey Gammon (fiancée, Noel Haas) currently in the United States Marine Corps; great-grandsons, Sean Jr. and Hudson; and other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Timothy Dane Gammon.
