SALEM — Effingham High School took a loss to Salem 3-2 in soccer competition Monday.
“We took a lot from this game” said EHS Coach Logan Arney. “Brady Wilson had some great saves. Connor Delong scored the first goal of the season off an assist from Jake Niebrugge and Tristan Devall put in the second.”
Niebrugge had an assist and Wilson had four saves.
At Altamont
Altamont lost against Hillsboro in Monday’s showdown, 3-0.
“The defensive back line of Kaleb Overton, Mason Suey and Nate Lurkins played well with help from midfielder Ashton Buchanan, thwarting several promising Hillsboro attacks,” said Altamont Coach Eric Morales. “The defense made one mistake and it cost them a Hillsboro goal in the 16th minute. Most of the match was played as a 1-0 match in favor of the Hiltoppers until Hillsboro scored twice in the waning minutes of the match, the first of which came on a direct free kick in the seventh minute followed by the final goal in the 77th minute.”
Hillsboro outshot the Indians 20-9, putting 15 shots on goal compared with five for the Indians. The Indians surrendered seven corner kicks, taking only two themselves. Eli Barnes, making his debut in goal had 12 saves.
Altamont won the junior varsity match 2-0 with goals by Chase Pals and Micah Tennpenny assisted by Julian Ixtepan. Zeke Barnes got the clean sheet in goal for the Indians.
