A snip of the ribbon Thursday officially opened an extension of the east-west runway at Effingham County Regional Airport.
The project extended the length of the runway to 6,000 feet. The added length will accommodate larger aircraft, which will hopefully more business and industry to Effingham County. Construction began last year.
Airport Commission Chairman Ken Wohltman pointed out that more airport traffic will mean more shopping and dining in the Effingham area.
County, city, Chamber, legislative and aeronautics representatives were all a part of the crowd in attendance.
