Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Teutopolis man on multiple felony counts of production of child sexual abuse materials.
Sheriff Paul Kuhns said his office served an arrest warrant on 29-year-old Johnny A. Soto II on Wednesday. Soto was arrested on three Class X felony counts, meaning mandatory prison time if found guilty of the offenses, as well as seven Class 1 felony counts of the same offense. The arrest warrant stems from an investigation conducted by detectives at the sheriff’s office that began earlier this year.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Effingham Police Department, the Teutopolis Police Department, the Illinois State Police, and the Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office.
At a pretrial detention hearing Friday, Judge Ericka Sanders ordered Soto to be detained at Effingham County Jail. Soto’s first appearance with counsel is set for the morning of September 17.
