Mildred “Millie” Mae Gray, 97, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 3:16 pm, Friday, August 14, 2026, in Willow Breeze Hospice House, Mattoon, IL.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, in Glenwood Cemetery, Blyman Addition, Shelbyville, IL, with Pastor Michael Madden officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice.
Millie was born on December 14, 1928, in Patoka, IL, the daughter of Oscar I. and Rita Clara (Schaffnit) Hill. She married Ray Gray on March 17, 1946, and they were blessed with three children, Lyle, Rita and Michael. Millie worked at Spurgeon’s Department Store, Vogel’s Jewelry Store, and Chamber of Commerce all in Clinton, IL and later at Sears and Platt’s Jewelry Store both in Shelbyville, IL. She retired to Florida from 2002-2007, where she enjoyed playing golf and many social activities. Millie and Ray returned to Shelbyville in 2007, where she enjoyed golf, bunco, and lunch with friends. She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
Millie is survived by her son, Lyle Gray (Peggy) of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Rita Wood (Bill) of St. Elmo, IL; sister-in-law, Lois Hill of Patoka, IL; grandchildren, Dustin Gray (Carol Armstrong), Douglas Wood (Kelly), Ashley Adams (Ben Harris), and Jeffrey Wood (Gloria Yanez); step-grandchildren, Josh Adams (Vicki), Jodi Boys (David), Jill Holloway, Julie Harper (Andy), and Joy Adams; great grandchildren, Alexis Adams (Cody), Nicholas Wood, Reese Wood, Peyton Wood, Will Wood, and Alex Wood; step-great grandchildren, Jonathon Woods, Dawson Boys, Isaac Holloway, Rio Holloway, Hudson Holloway, Cheyenne Holloway, Justyce Foor, and Jayden Harper; great great grandchild, Memphis Adams; step-great great grandchildren, Aria and Aurora Woods; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray on June 6, 2008; brothers, Halden, Max, and Bill Hill; and son, Michael Gray on May 20, 2012.
