Effingham Park Commissioners Monday discussed the next Park Board election.
Three commissioner seats will be filled in the Spring 2027 election. Those are now held by Kevin Palmer, Manny Wei and Jeff Ungrund. Palmer will be concluding a full term, while Wei and Ungrund were appointed to their seats after no one ran for those offices. Palmer could run for a full six-year term, while Ungrund and Wei would run for unexpired four-year terms.
Park District Director Jeff Althoff reported on fall sports programs. 294 kids are signed up for soccer, while 298 are signed up for flag football.
The Board discussed the need for new equipment in the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex, and talked over funding sources.
While a new restroom facility for Community Park is in store in conjunction with making room in the park for a storage building to house the Wonderland in Lights Christmas displays, there is also discussion underway to replace the restrooms near Niccum Field. Althoff will be contacting Civil Design for ideas on the restroom.
