A ceremony of honor and remembrance, dedicating the memorial overpasses in Effingham named for Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher Donaldson and Sergeant Timothy Sayne is scheduled for 2pm on Tuesday, August 11 at the Workman Sports Complex.

Both local men were killed in action in Afghanistan; Donaldson in 2006, Sayne in 2011. The Illinois General Assembly voted this year to name the 4th Street Overpass in Donaldson’s memory and the Fayette Avenue Overpass in Sayne’s memory.

Speakers will include City Commissioner Libby Moeller, who spearheaded the local effort to honor the fallen soldiers, along with local legislators who helped with the naming of the overpasses; State Senator Steve McClure, and State Representatives Adam Niemerg and Blaine Wilhour, and Effingham Mayor Mike Schutzbach. Other participants will include American Legion Post #120 Color Guard, singers and speakers, and St. John’s Lutheran Church Reverend Mike Burdick who will pray and lead in a moment of silence.

A reception will be held at the Effingham American Legion Post Home downtown on Washington Avenue immediately following the ceremony.
