ST. LOUIS — It was a big-hitting night for Chicago Cubs fans and especially for Alex Bregman Monday evening.
The Cubs finished the game with 14 hits and handed the Cardinals a 7-3 loss. Behind those 14 hits was Bregman who broke out of a slump with four hits that included a single, two doubles, a home run and two RBI.
He was hitless in the previous three games he played and sat out Sunday. He was 0-for-12 going into Monday evening’s game.
Meanwhile Nico Hoerner also provided the power, finishing with four hits that included three singles and a two-run homer. He tallied four RBI.
Miguel Amaya added two singles and an RBI while Carson Kelly had two singles.
The Cardinals had seven hits. Jose Fermin finished with a home run for an RBI while Bryan Torres doubled and had an RBI and Masyn Winn added a single and an RBI.
David Peterson was the winning pitcher for the Cubs. He went 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out two.
The Cubs are now 60-46 on the season while the Cardinals are at .500 with a 53-53 record.
The two teams square off again tonight. Game time is 6:45 p.m. They will also play Wednesday at 6:45 and finish out the four-game series Thursday at 1:15.
