The jobless rate for Illinois in June was at 5.1%, up from 4.6% one year earlier.
Total nonfarm jobs were up about 7,000 in the state.
In Effingham County, the unemployment rate in June was 3.4%, up from 3.2% in June 2025.
Total nonfarm payroll in the county increased by 125 jobs in June, with employment gains posted in Construction, Manufacturing, Professional-Business Services, and Government. Payroll totals were unchanged in Natural Resources-Mining and Trade-Transportation-Utilities. Payroll job losses occurred among employers in the Private Education-Health Services, Financial Activities, Information, Leisure-Hospitality, and Other Services sectors.

Shelby–3.7%, up from 3.5%
Cumberland–3.2%, up from 3.1%
Coles–4.1%, up from 3.9%
Jasper–3.2%, the same as in June 2025
Fayette–4.7%, up from 4.2%
Clay–4%, down from 4.5%
