Altamont school board members Monday awarded a bid for an addition to Altamont Grade School.

K. Wohltman Construction of Effingham was awarded the bid for $1,478,000.

AGS Principal Kris Biggs said the project will involve construction of four regular classrooms, as well as a couple of offices. An outside area will also be constructed for sale of concessions for track meets and other outside events.

Biggs said, “We are simply out of room and need the space.” He said the project should be completed in time for the 2027-28 school year.

The Board also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Altamont for an electrical upgrade for the grade school addition.

Following a closed session, the Altamont board employed Bailey Teasley as junior high assistant softball coach and Ryan Kraemer as junior high volunteer assistant softball coach. Resignations were accepted from Holly VanSaghi as a paraprofessional and from August Koester as drama club sponsor. Tamara Norris was employed as a drama club sponsor, and Corletta Bowen’s intent to retire was accepted as an elementary special education teacher at the end of the 28-29 school year.

The Board also tabled the purchase of interactive whiteboards in order to gather more information.
