Effingham County Regional Airport commissioners reviewed use of the east-west runway extension. The extension has been open about two weeks.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held later this summer.

Some issues with the lighting have been addressed. Final seeding of the area along the extension should be completed in September.

Meanwhile, work on the new hangar building is nearing completion. The project punchlist should be reviewed in the next week or two. Airport Manager Jerry Tate said they hope to have tenants in the building by August 1.

Commissioners discussed a larger fuel tank. The 10,000-gallon tank is not large enough and there are guidelines that need addressed to make way for a 12,000-gallon tank. Conversations are underway with the Division of Aeronautics about accommodating the larger tank.

There was discussion about a Phase II apron expansion. County Engineer Greg Koester said the design of the project is 80%-90% complete. Koester hopes a letting will take place this winter.

The Commission discussing striping that is needed and there was consideration of fencing on the east end of the runway extension.
