Please be advised that Lake Mattoon Beach is temporarily closed to the public until further notice.
During the standard biweekly water quality testing, samples indicated elevated levels of E. coli bacteria.
Water Quality Details:
- Current Test Results: Recent samples showed concentrations of 344.8 CFU per 100ml and 325.5 CFU per 100ml.
- Safe Threshold Baseline: Guidelines require levels to be strictly below 235 CFU per 100ml before the beach can safely reopen.
The beach will not be reopened until two additional samples collected on the same day are both less than 235 CFU per 100ml.
Testing will be conducted again in the next few days depending on the weather.
