An Effingham man was sentenced to jail time in a case that involved a stolen vehicle and several crashes.
22-year-old Draven Shelton was taken into custody last August after stealing the vehicle, which that same night was observed striking multiple unattended vehicles as well as a mailbox. The incident began downtown in the 100 block of South Banker Street. The vehicle was observed operating at night without headlights and driving on the rims. Shelton eventually came to a stop at the intersection of 4th and Clark where he was taken into custody.
Shelton pleaded guilty to two counts of leaving the scene of a crash, as well as a count of theft. He was sentenced to jail time, but was given day for day credit for time served. He was ordered to make just over $3,000 in restitution.
