Effingham City Council members heard requests Tuesday for funding from two local entities.

Norma Lansing and Josh Bullock were seeking funds for the CORE Academy, the organization providing instruction for various programs for students from more than a dozen area high schools. Lansing, who has been involved locally with CORE since its inception, and Bullock, President of Lake Land College, are seeking $50,000 per year from the City for the coming three years. CORE programs are being offered at the Effingham Technology Center, which is owned by Lake Land.

The Council also heard from Effingham Regional Growth Alliance President and CEO Courtney Yockey, who requested a $110,000 contribution from the City for the coming year.

Both funding requests are expected to be acted on by the Council at a coming meeting.

The Council also recognized City Planner Greg Koester as City Employee of the Year.
