Jimmie Leroy Hickman, 75, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026

He was a man of many skills who lived many lives.  He was born and raised in Effingham County, which is where he resided until he was called to serve his country.  He served proudly in the United States Navy with two tours in the Vietnam War.  After returning home, he developed a love for music and the outdoors.  He spent many years roaming the country, eventually settling down in Phoenix, AZ.  If he wasn’t working, or on one of his long nature walks, you could find him writing lyrics and creating music.  He passed down his love and wisdom of nature and music to his children.  Along with other knowledge and morals, his family and friends will carry with them for a lifetime.

He is survived by his sister Cathy Followel, son Steven O’Brien, daughter Carmen (Hickman) Walker (husband Stacy Walker), son Leroy James Hickman, son Jimmie Jack Hickman, stepdaughter Amelia Sinkler (spouse Josh Lovett), and grandsons Jimmie Jack Jr., and Cooper Ray Hickman.

He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil Hickman and Madge Hickman along with his siblings and stepdaughter Amy Pontious.

The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
