Josephine Smith, 76, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 5:58 pm June 5, 2026 at Deaconess Crossroads Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born June 10, 1949 in Shelbyville, Illinois to the late Durward S. and and Helen (Richards) Grove.
Josephine is survived by her life partner, Keith Hampton of Mount Vernon; son, Kurt Patrick Smith and wife, Felicia of Baxter, Tennessee; daughter, Dawn Ann Smith of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jeremiah Farmer and wife, Samantha of Symria, Tennessee and Tristan Smith of Louisville, Kentucky; great-grandson, Finn Farmer; brothers, Joseph Eugene Grove and wife, Judy of Watertown, Wisconsin and Walter Grove of Chicago, Illinois; sisters, Maria Hardt of Homer Glen, Illinois, Sandy Lee of Minnesota, Dorothy Demetzensky of Chicago, Illinois, Linda Grove of Terra Haute, Indiana, Mary Jane Waters and husband John of Effingham, Illinois, Francie Rahe of Effingham, Illinois, and Nancy Wilson of Watson, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Grove.
