Ronald Wayne Mingus, 55, of Stewardson, Illinois, passed away on May 30, 2026, at SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Ron was born on August 23, 1970, in Effingham, the son of Harold “Wayne” and Nancy (Beals) Mingus. He was raised in the Stewardson area and graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School with the class of 1988. Following high school, he continued his education at Lake Land College in Mattoon, earning an associate’s degree in Auto Mechanics. Ron spent his life working as a mechanic and truck driver, and he took great pride in both callings. He was a lifelong tradesman who understood the value of hard work, reliability, and doing a job right. The open road suited him well, and he covered many miles over the course of his career, enjoying the freedom and purpose that came with it. Ron was the kind of man who spoke plainly and honestly, and those who knew him always knew where they stood. He was generous with his knowledge and never hesitated to share his thoughts, especially when the conversation turned to trucks, tractors, or anything mechanical. His practical wisdom, steady presence, and unmistakable personality left a lasting impression on the people around him. Above all else, Ron valued his family.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy; his sisters, Cindy (Dave) Foreman and Diana (Dewayne) Day; his nieces, Brittany (Terrence) Hollis and Ashley Foreman; his nephew, Dennis (Jeanna) Day; his great-nieces, Abby Mette, Bostyn Mette, and Aspyn Hollis, who is due in June, and his great-nephews, Andrew Day and Turner Hollis. He held a special place in the hearts of those who loved him, and his presence will be deeply missed at family gatherings, holidays, and everyday moments alike.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Harold Wayne, and his faithful canine companion, Nubb.
Honoring Ron’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. The date is yet to be determined for a graveside service that will be held at Stewardson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ron’s honor may be made to the Effingham County Animal Shelter and Control or the donor’s favorite charity and may be mailed to 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565. Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.
Ron will be remembered for his hard work, his honesty, his knowledge, and the unmistakable way he lived life on his own terms. His legacy will live on through the family he loved, the work he did, and the many lives he touched along the way.
