Wendell D. Stoneburner, 78 years old passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at his home in Beecher City, IL, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery by Wrights Corner with military rites. Pastor Ty Stoneburner will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, Springhill Church or Springhill Cemetery Fund. Wendell was the son of Albert and Edith (Witt) Stoneburner. He was born on February 20, 1948. Wendell served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1969. He was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Wendell was a lifelong farmer and concrete worker. He enjoyed riding on his side-by-side, checking on livestock and crops. He also enjoyed sitting on the patio listening to music with his dog by his side.
Wendell married Lois Jean Smith on August 7, 1971. They shared 54 years of marriage. They were blessed with two sons, Mark (Margie) and Darin (wife, Donna) Stoneburner; three grandchildren, Brad, Kelly and Dustin; six great-grandchildren, Harper, Oaklyn, Kaisen, Kinsley, Aubrey, and Henry; brothers, Larry Stoneburner of Beecher City, Allen Stoneburner of Effingham, and David Stoneburner of Iowa; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; a very special niece, Alice Stewart; and his dog, Dixie.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Franklin; sister-in-law, Jo Ann; and nephew, Josh Stoneburner.
The family welcomes all guests to wear casual attire and join them for a meal at the Beecher City Kluthe Center following the services.
